Little Trudi Fraser thought that Rick Dalton’s performance was the best acting she’d ever seen. The members of the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle seemed to agree.
Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t take their Best Actor prize but his film nabbed top honors: Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood was named Best Picture of 2019 by the Sooner state org (full disclosure: I am a member and current VP).
Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out also made a strong showing when the Oklahoma org tweeted out their winners, taking the Runner-Up slot on the Top 10 list while giving Johnson the Best Original Screenplay award. His cast also won Best Ensemble.
It’s the first Best Picture win of the Awards Season for Quentin Tarantino‘s homage to the end of a Hollywood era. It also won awards for Brad Pitt (Best Supporting Actor) and Robert Richardson (Best Cinematography). In addition, Tarantino’s ninth feature film was cited as Runner-Up in three other categories (see full list of winners and runners-up below).
Joining Pitt and the Knives Out cast in the other acting categories: Best Actor Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems), Best Actress Lupita Nyong’o (Us), and Best Supporting Actress Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers). Uncut Gems also, er, scored a victory for Daniel Lopatin in the Best Score category.
Marin Scorsese won Best Director for The Irishman and his screenwriter Steven Zaillian took Best Adapted Screenplay. Marriage Story stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson had to settle for Runner-Up honors in the Actor and Actress categories but both were named in the OFCC’s “Best Body of Work” award. Driver won for his impressive 2019 slate and Johansson took Runner-Up for hers (she tied with Brad Pitt).
